Clemson baseball is starting the 2025 season with significant recognition as junior outfielder Cam Cannarella and sophomore pitcher Aidan Knaak have been named to the D1Baseball Preseason First-Team All-Americans list. This honor for Cannarella and Knaak proves the talent and potential of two of the Tigers’ brightest stars heading into the new season.
Cam Cannarella: The ACC’s Top Prospect
Cannarella enters the 2025 season with momentum and is recognized as the No. 1 ACC prospect for the upcoming MLB Draft, according to Baseball America, D1Baseball, and Perfect Game. After battling through injuries in 2024, the outfielder still managed to post an impressive .337 batting average with 11 home runs, showcasing his versatility. Known for his clutch performances, Cannarella delivered one of the most iconic plays of Clemson’s season, which was a backward, Willie Mays-style catch at the wall against Florida during the Super Regional. The play earned him widespread attention as one of the best defensive moments of the 2024 postseason.
Cannarella’s ability to impact the game both offensively and defensively has made him a cornerstone for Clemson’s roster. His bat has proven to be a consistent force, while his range and athleticism in the outfield have set him apart as one of the best all-around players in college baseball. As a First-Team Preseason All-American, Cannarella will lead the charge for a Tigers team with high aspirations this upcoming season.
Aidan Knaak: The Tigers’ Ace
Knaak, named a First-Team Preseason All-American, has been a star on the mound since stepping foot at Clemson. The right-hander became the Tigers’ ace as a freshman, earning National Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors from the NCBWA. He was also named a First-Team Freshman All-American by Baseball America, D1Baseball, Perfect Game, and the NCBWA. Knaak posted an outstanding 5-1 record in 2024, compiling a 3.35 ERA with a team-leading 108 strikeouts over 83.1 innings pitched.
Knaak’s dominance comes from his ability to mix pitches effectively, most notably with his change-up, and being able to maintain his composure in high-pressure situations. His impact on the team as a freshman was one to remember, setting the tone for Clemson’s pitching staff and providing stability at the top of the rotation in times of need. As a sophomore now, he’s expected to anchor the staff once again and help guide the Tigers deep into postseason play.
A Bright Season Ahead
The recognition for Cannarella and Knaak is not only a testament to their individual talent but also a reflection of the program’s upward trend under Erik Bakich’s leadership. Their contributions, along with the Tigers’ strong supporting core, have Clemson ready to build on last year’s success, which included an NCAA Super Regional appearance.
Cannarella’s leadership in the lineup and Knaak’s reliability on the mound give Clemson a strong foundation as they prepare to open their 2025 campaign in Arlington, Texas, at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown on February 14th. Expectations are high, but with two Preseason All-Americans leading the way, the Tigers are poised for another electrifying season.
