CLEMSON, S.C. – Fresh off an ACC-opening series victory over Notre Dame, the fourth-ranked Clemson Tigers (19-2, 2-1 ACC) are set to welcome The Citadel Bulldogs to Doug Kingsmore Stadium for a two-game midweek series. The action kicks off Tuesday at 6 p.m. and continues Wednesday at 6 p.m., with both games available on ACC Network Extra.
Clemson extended its winning streak to 17 games over the weekend before dropping the series finale to the Fighting Irish on Sunday. The Tigers have been dominant at home, boasting a 14-1 record at Doug Kingsmore while averaging 8.1 runs per game with a .295 team batting average. The offense has been fueled by consistent production throughout the lineup, while the pitching staff continues to impress with a 3.79 ERA and a .201 opponent batting average.
This series marks another step in Clemson’s current 16-game homestand, the program’s longest since playing 24 consecutive home games in 2002. The extended stretch at Doug Kingsmore has been key in the Tigers’ early-season success as they look to maintain their momentum.
The Citadel (10-6) enters the series under first-year head coach Russell Triplett, a familiar name for Clemson fans. Triplett was a standout infielder for the Tigers from 2001-04, hitting .312 with 11 home runs, 98 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases in 222 games. He later returned to Clemson as a volunteer assistant coach in 2006 before moving into the coaching ranks elsewhere. Now leading The Citadel, Triplett brings a Bulldogs squad that is averaging 4.7 runs per contest while maintaining a 4.42 ERA. Garrett Dill leads the Bulldogs at the plate with a .313 average and two home runs.
Clemson’s pitching has been a key factor in their success, and after a grueling ACC series, head coach Erik Bakich may look to get work for some of his bullpen arms in these midweek matchups. With The Citadel owning just one road game so far this season, the Tigers will look to capitalize on their home-field advantage and continue their strong start to 2024.
First pitch for both games is set for 6 p.m. at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
