Pre-Game Setup

On day two of the Tiger Invitational, the Clemson Tigers softball team faced off against the Indiana Hoosiers. Clemson entered the matchup riding the momentum of yesterday’s doubleheader sweep over Lafayette and East Carolina. Meanwhile, Indiana was playing its second game of the day after an 8-2 victory over East Carolina.

Reese Basinger took the circle for Clemson, entering with a 3-2 record and a 2.24 ERA. Indiana countered with freshman Jenae Berry, who had only allowed three runs over 28.2 innings pitched across six games.

Early Game Action

Basinger started strong, retiring the side in order in the first inning. However, the following innings proved more challenging. Indiana loaded the bases off multiple singles, but Basinger stayed composed, limiting the damage to just one run. Defensive miscues from the Tigers kept the Hoosiers in the game—Basinger hit two batters, and an error by shortstop Marian Collins allowed Indiana to tack on two more runs in the third.

Clemson’s Offensive Explosion

Clemson’s offense, however, was relentless from the start. Sam Minish’s sacrifice fly in the first inning gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead, setting the tone for the game. Shortly after, Maddie Moore crushed a two-run homer off the left-field foul post—a towering 215-foot shot, marking her fourth home run of the season.

The bottom of the Tigers' lineup took over in the third inning, racking up hits and advancing runners. Indiana made a pitching change, bringing in right-hander Brianna Copeland, but she also struggled against Clemson’s bats, surrendering two more runs as the Tigers extended their lead to 7-3 by the end of the third.

Defensive Highlights

On the defensive side, Clemson rebounded with some highlight-worthy plays. In the fourth inning, center fielder Jamison Brockenbrough made an incredible leaping catch on a hard-hit ball from Copeland. Later, Alex Brown quickly turned a double play to close out the fifth inning.

Basinger exited the game after allowing two hits to start the sixth. She finished with two strikeouts and a 2.61 ERA. Macey Cintron took over in relief, allowing just one run to close out the game.

Final Score: Clemson 11, Indiana 5

Clemson’s offense was unstoppable, scoring in all but one inning. Aby Vieira had a stellar day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Moore also contributed three RBIs, further cementing Clemson’s offensive dominance. Reese Basinger would improve her record to 4-2 on the season. Indiana's Jenae Berry would suffer her first loss of the year, 6-1.

Tiger Invitational Finale

With the win, the Tigers improve to 13-6 and will face Indiana again tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in the championship game of the Tiger Invitational. The game can be seen on ACCNX.
