Clemson Tigers Softball Takes the Field in All-Purple Uniforms
The Clemson Tigers Softball team entered the game as the designated away team against Missouri Softball, donning their all-purple uniform combination. Leading off for Clemson, Alex Brown flew out to right field, followed by Jamison Brockenbrough, who drew a walk. Maddie Moore made her season debut after missing the Paradise Classic, but she struck out looking. Julia Knowler then flew out to center, closing out a hitless first inning for Clemson.
Missouri Threatens, But Clemson Escapes the First Inning
Reese Basinger took the circle for Clemson, navigating through a walk and a defensive error by Marian Collins. Missouri managed to place runners on first and third but couldn't capitalize, as Basinger held them scoreless.
Ava Wilson's Grand Slam Ignites Clemson's Offense
The Tigers' bats came alive in the second inning. After a flyout from Sam Minish, Macey Cintron delivered Clemson’s first hit with a single to left. Marian Collins followed with a single to center, advancing Cintron to second. Aby Vieira then worked a walk, loading the bases for Ava Wilson, who delivered in a big way with a grand slam to right field, giving Clemson a 4-0 lead. Clemson wasn't done yet. Jamison Brockenbrough laid down a perfect bunt single to keep the inning alive. Maddie Moore then launched a deep fly ball to the wall, which was misplayed by the outfielder, allowing Brockenbrough to score on an RBI triple, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Missouri Rallies to Tie the Game in the Bottom of the Second
Missouri quickly responded, plating five runs in the bottom half of the second inning. A bunt single scored their first run, followed by a misplay in the outfield, which allowed runners to advance. A two-run double tied the game at 5-5, but Clemson finally escaped the inning with a lineout to Alex Brown.
Missouri Takes the Lead in the Third
Clemson struggled in the top of the third, going down in order as Minish struck out looking, Cintron went down swinging, and Collins flew out to center. With Basinger exiting the game, Cintron entered in relief, but a throwing error on a bunt allowed Missouri to score and take a 6-5 lead. Clemson limited the damage with a groundout to Brown at third base to end the inning.
Missouri Extends Their Lead in the Fourth
Clemson’s offense couldn't respond in the fourth, as Aby Vieira popped out, Ava Wilson flew out, and Brockenbrough was retired to end the frame. Missouri capitalized in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs. A two-run double to center extended their lead to 8-5, followed by a sacrifice fly to make it 9-5. Clemson now faced a tough four-run deficit.
Mizzou Adds Another in the Fifth, Clemson Struggles to Respond
In the fifth inning, Brook Melnychuk took over pitching duties for Clemson. Missouri tacked on another run via a sacrifice fly, stretching their lead to 10-5.
Clemson’s Last Push in the Seventh Falls Short
The Tigers attempted a late comeback in the top of the seventh. Maddie Moore launched a solo home run to center, cutting Missouri’s lead to 10-6. Julia Knowler followed with a double to right field, putting Clemson in scoring position. However, Missouri turned to their bullpen, bringing in Taylor Pannell, who quickly shut down Clemson’s last attempt at a rally, sealing the 10-6 victory for Missouri.
