The Clemson Women’s Basketball team is poised to continue ACC conference play following a slate of non-conference games to kick off the season. In his first year at the helm, Head Coach Shawn Poppie has revitalized the Tigers with key transfers, steering the team to an impressive 8-4 record. Clemson has already tasted conference action, standing at 1-0 in ACC play after securing a hard-fought 65-59 victory at Wake Forest.

Players to Watch

Loyal McQueen

The Alabama transfer has emerged as the Tigers’ leader, averaging 13.7 points per game and dishing out a team-high 66 assists. McQueen’s sharpshooting from beyond the arc is a standout, hitting 50% of her three-point attempts, which is a mark tied for the team lead. She also thrives at the free-throw line, shooting an impressive 80.5%. Known for her electric play at guard, McQueen is expected to be pivotal in Clemson’s ACC success.

Mia Moore

The UAB transfer is another key contributor, ranking second on the team in scoring with 10.5 points per game. Moore has been clutch at the free-throw line, converting 77.8% of her attempts. Defensively, she’s a force, recording 54 defensive rebounds, which is second-best on the team. Moore’s all-around play will be instrumental in the Tigers’ performance during conference play.

Tessa Miller

The Belmont transfer dominates on the defensive side of the ball, leading the team with 88 total rebounds and an average of 7.3 per game. Offensively, Miller is highly efficient, boasting the team’s best field-goal percentage. At the free-throw line, she’s reliable, hitting 75% of her attempts. The 6’2” forward’s presence on both ends of the court makes her an invaluable asset for Clemson.

Hannah Kohn

A Chattanooga transfer who followed Coach Poppie to Clemson, Kohn has found her rhythm recently. Over the past three games, she’s averaged 13 points per game while shooting 60% from three-point range. Kohn is nearly automatic at the free-throw line, converting at a stellar 92.3% rate. Highlighting her season, Kohn scored a season-high 15 points against Hawaii. Clemson will look to build on her hot streak as they navigate the ACC schedule.

Next Up

The Tigers will open ACC play tomorrow evening in Raleigh, North Carolina, against the 23rd-ranked NC State Wolfpack. This matchup presents an early test for Coach Poppie’s squad against one of the nation’s top teams. Surviving this tough battle could set the tone for a successful conference run.

Clemson’s schedule lightens up after NC State, as the Tigers will enjoy a four-game homestand at Littlejohn Coliseum, ending with a seasoned and currently third-ranked Notre Dame squad on January 12th. Following the homestand, the team hits the road for challenging matchups against Florida State in Tallahassee and Georgia Tech in Atlanta. With a competitive ACC schedule ahead, the Tigers will need to rely on their depth and momentum to compete in one of the nation’s top conferences in women’s basketball.
