The No. 19 Clemson Tigers (36-11, 15-4 ACC) extended their win streak to eight games on Friday night, defeating the Boston College Eagles 8-4 at McWhorter Stadium to lock up the series win. Senior Maddie Moore put on a show on Senior Weekend, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs, including a go-ahead three-run homer that sparked the Tigers' comeback.
Boston College struck early, as Emma Jackson led off the game with a double and later scored on a Hannah Slike RBI single to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Clemson responded with a couple of hits in the bottom half from Alex Brown and Maddie Moore, Brown would be thrown out at second, waiting to see if Moore's fly ball would fall or not, for the first out. Knowler would reach on a walk, to put two on with one out, but none would score.
The Eagles extended their lead in the second after loading the bases with one out, helped by a hit-by-pitch, a single, and a fielder's choice/error. Jackson stayed hot with her second hit of the game, an RBI single that made it 2-0. BC pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third on a leadoff solo homer by Slike. After a Jordan Stephens single, that would be the end of the night for Clemson starter Brooke McCubbin, who gave up three runs on five hits over 2.0 innings. Macey Cintron came in and immediately settled things down for the Tigers.
In the bottom of the third, Clemson started to claw back. Back-to-back singles from Brown and Moore, followed by an RBI single from Cintron, put the Tigers on the board. Cintron would then shut BC down in the fourth, ending the frame with a strikeout of Slike.
Clemson took control in the bottom of the fourth. After Kylee Johnson and Taylor Pipkins reached on singles, Jamoison Brockenbrough would reach on a fielder's choice, with Johnson forced out at third. With two on and two outs, Alex Brown drove in a run to cut the deficit to 3-2. Moore delivered the biggest swing of the night, a three-run home run to left field to give Clemson a 5-3 lead. Boston College made a pitching change, but the damage had already been done.
The Tigers added more in the sixth. Moore, capping off her 4-for-4 night, drove in another run with a single. Julia Knowler followed with an RBI groundout, and Cintron added the exclamation point with a solo home run, her second in as many games, to push the lead to 8-3.
Boston College would add a run in the seventh, but Cintron finished strong, earning the win with 5.0 innings of relief. She allowed just one run on six hits while improving to 8-2 on the year.
Clemson now (37-11, 16-4 ACC) will aim for the sweep Saturday at 12 PM EDT.
