Clemson defensive lineman Peter Woods has transformed his body this offseason, shedding weight to improve his speed and endurance. With a new level of agility and a deep commitment to leadership, Woods is prepared to make a significant impact on the Tigers’ defense in 2025. In his Clemson career, Peter Woods has 54 total tackles with 11 tackles for loss along with three sacks. Last season, Woods had 28 total tackles with eight and a half being tackles for loss with three sacks. Woods came to Clemson being highly recruited after winning four state titles in a row at Thompson High School.

A Physical Transformation for Peter Woods

Woods has lost 15-20 pounds in preparation for the season, allowing him to play at a higher level for longer stretches. "Play more plays at a higher level for a longer period of time," Woods said, describing his goal. Woods got up to as much as 330 pounds during the season due to injury. The change has restored his quickness and made him an even more versatile defensive lineman.

Leadership and Transfers Making an Impact

With the arrival of key transfers, Woods has embraced his role as a mentor. He spoke highly of Purdue transfer Will Heldt. "He brings a lot of fire and leadership," Woods said, recalling how Heldt impressed him during their first Matt drill together. "He brought the fire."

Defensive coordinator Tom Allen has also been instrumental in pushing the team to new heights. "I’d run through a wall for that man," Woods said. Allen’s demanding coaching style has elevated expectations across the defense. "He’s gonna make you uncomfortable in every situation. We’re held accountable to a higher degree."

Woods believes he can be effective anywhere on the defensive line. He’s also excited to reunite with high school teammate Jeremiah Alexander. "It was a no-brainer for him to come here," Woods said, confident that Alexander will be a key contributor.

Unwavering Commitment to Clemson

Despite transfer rumors, Woods made it clear that he is fully committed to Clemson. "My thoughts have not come off this team," he stated. His dedication is evident in his intense work ethic, arriving at 4:30 a.m. for 5:30 a.m. workouts. "If you’re on time, you’re late," he emphasized.

Another name Woods is excited about is freshman defensive lineman Amare Adams. "He can move for as big as he is," Woods said, highlighting his potential.

A Defensive Force in 2025

With a leaner frame, a relentless work ethic, and a deep belief in Clemson’s defensive system, Peter Woods is primed for a breakout season. His leadership and commitment will be vital as the Tigers aim for a national championship in the 2025 college football season.
