Tigers Defeat Pitt After Late Push on Floor

The Clemson Tigers gymnastics team had their home opener this season against the Pittsburgh Panthers. This was a rematch from a couple of weeks ago between the Tigers and Panthers. As expected, this meet was a competitive one and it went down to the fourth rotation. Let’s dive into how the meet unfolded. 


Vault

Trinity Brown went first on vault for the Tigers. She performed a Yurchenko Full to get a score of 9.825. Quinn Kuhl went next, performing a Yurchenko Full and putting up a score of 9.725. Tara Walsh did a Yurchenko 1.5, getting a score of 9.700. Madison Minner did a Tucked Yurchenko 1.5 to get a 9.775. Eve Jackson went next, performing a Yurchenko 1.5 and scoring a 9.700. Maggie Holman rounded out the Tigers, doing a Front Handspring Pike Half and getting a score of 9.850. At the end of the first rotation, Clemson led Pitt 48.875-48.725. Clemson had a great showing on vault as the lowest score that was dropped was a 9.700 from the Tigers. 


Bars 

Lilly Lippeatt went first on bars as always and stuck the landing. Lippeatt got a score of 9.850. Takoda Berry went next and stuck the landing as well, putting up a score of 9.775. Eve Jackson went next and put up a score of 9.775. Hannah Clark had a fall off the bars and got a score of 9.125. Rebecca Wells went and stuck the landing, getting a score of 9.800. Quinn Kuhl also suffered a fall off bars, scoring an 8.975, which was dropped. After the second rotation, Pitt took the lead 97.575 to 97.200. 


Beam 

Lilly Lippeatt led off on beam and stuck the dismount, getting a score of 9.825. Brie Clark went next, putting up a crucial score of 9.900. Danika Nielsen also put up a good score of 9.800. Sierra Church put up another consistent beam score, getting a 9.775. Quinn Kuhl suffered a fall and got a score of 8.900, which was dropped. Tara Walsh finished out beam for the Tigers, putting up a 9.475. At the end of the third rotation, Clemson still trailed Pitt 146.325-145.975, needing a crucial showing on floor. 


Floor

Lilly Lippeatt started first on floor for Clemson and ignited the crowd in Littlejohn Coliseum. Lippeatt scored a 9.800 on her floor routine. Maggie Holman went next and put up a 9.850. Madison Minner did her routine and got an impactful score of 9.825. Molly Arnold performed her routine and got a score of 9.600. Eve Jackson got a score of 9.825. Brie Clark rounded out floor for Clemson and got the score of the night, which was a 9.925. This score led to the Tigers winning this meet. 


Final Results

The Clemson gymnastics team won this meet against Pitt 195.350 to 195.275 after a crucial score on floor from Brie Clark. The Tigers put up consistent scores on vault with the highest score coming from Maggie Holman. Bars was the event for the night that Clemson struggled on after having two falls. Beam was also an event that Clemson had a fall on. Floor was the event of the night for Clemson as Littlejohn Coliseum’s atmosphere came alive and helped the Tigers get that late push in the end. After a close meet, Clemson finished 2-0 against Pitt this season. Up next for the Clemson gymnastics team is another road trip to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. This meet will take place next Sunday, February 9th at 4:00 p.m. in Carmichael Arena and will be available to watch on ACC Network.
